Perhaps you wonder...How did I get started with Hypnosis and NLP?  Here's how!

Connie's Story!

   Connie Brannan, Seattle's Premiere Hypnotist

I “discovered” hypnosis quite by accident at the Puyallup Fair a few years back.  We were wandering around the fair eating onion burgers and scones and Michael saw an announcement for a stage hypnotist performance.  It was a free entertainment, and we plopped ourselves down to enjoy it.  I had no idea what to expect, but was surprised to find that the show was quite amusing, featured hypnotized subjects singing and dancing, hallucinating bugs and chairs with teeth, speaking foreign languages like “Martian,” x-ray “nudie” glasses, men having babies onstage, all manner of crazy antics.  I was intrigued but yet thought, what IS this?  I can’t believe this.  Are they "stooges?"  Is this real?  What is happening here?

After the show, I went up to the hypnotist and spoke to him.  He was selling some audio CD products, a blend of hypnosis and conversational NLP language patterns to effect personal change.  I bought the weight loss CD.  Some time later, I began listening to it.  And…lo and behold, I started taking better care of myself and eating right and exercising.  Several months later, I had lost close to 75 pounds!!!  Doing what I wanted to do for myself.  Not a struggle!  I had shifted something inside.  In a good way that was allowing me to move forward in my life in a more healthy, positive direction!

Connie lost 75 pounds with NLP and hypnosis!

As I watched my habits and body transforming, I thought to myself:  “There’s something going on here.  Obviously!!  And it's something powerful.  Something real!  Something I need to know more about!”   These techniques and language patterns and process called "hypnosis" had helped me achieve a goal I’d been wanting in my life for a long, long time.  I NEEDED to learn more!  I determined to learn more!

Thus began my research into hypnosis.  I scoured the 'net for hypnosis resources and references.  I bought and read books galore, I read articles and scientific studies, I joined online forums frequented by Professional Hypnotists, Hypnotherapists, and NLP trainers.  I asked questions, and day by day I was getting more and more excited.  All the possibilities:  personal enrichment and transformation, a new career doing something valuable, something that matters, helping people, changing the world person by person.  My new hypno-friends encouraged me to take a live training as I really wanted to learn more and experience more of the power of Hypnosis for myself.  I was initially hesitant to sign up, but then decided to GO FOR IT!  So I did!  I signed up for my first 3 month-long Hypnosis and NLP training.  That was the best decision of my life!!!  (Well, apart perhaps from choosing Michael, whom I’ve been married to now for 20-some years!)  And, happily, the learning is a never-ending process.  Over the years, I've had more and more live trainings all across the country with more and more experts, and the joy keeps growing as I delve deeper and deeper into my fascination with the mind and how it works.  (That's how I named my business "Mindworks."  It's all about how the "mind works.")

Discovering the power of hypnosis changed the course of my life!  I soon realized that this work was more powerful and more important than anything I’d ever learned or done.  I got my training and certifications.  I quit my 9-to-5 job.  I began my own exciting business as a hypnotherapist  and NLP Master Practitioner, the business of helping.  I opened an office in Bellevue in the Park Heights Building, and began changing lives—one at a time.  For the better!

I love using these tools I've mastered for helping people let go of fears and anxieties, let go of unwanted habits like smoking and stuttering and fingernail biting, adopting better strategies for living, weight control, pain management, sleeping better.  More and more and more cool life-improving things, helping people through hypnosis and NLP.  Enhancing people’s sports games, increasing memory, increasing confidence and self esteem, increasing motivation, helping people let go of limiting beliefs and find the unconscious solutions to life’s dilemmas which they already have inside themselves.  And you know what, I'm having more fun than I’d ever dreamed possible.  I absolutely, without reservation, LOVE THIS WORK!!  It’s amazing.  It’s my passion, it’s my life!

Also exciting, Michael shares my passion.  We’re moving forward together.  As it turns out, his interest in all this precedes mine, he was hypnotizing his little schoolmates at age 13!  But that’s Michael’s story, which he will share himself.

With more and more trainings under the belt, more and more experience in my office playing with these tools, I made another leap.  This is something we can teach!  We can touch more minds than just one at a time.  Michael and I joined Richard Bandler (NLP’s originator) in Orlando, Florida for the ultimate NLP trainer’s training.  We earned the King’s seal of approval, that we had mastered this methodology to the point that he was comfortable licensing us to teach it.  We are also Licensed Trainers of Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™, and opened a Seattle based licensed vocational school to share the magic of NLP and Hypnosis with the world.  I’m happier than I ever imagined now that I share these tools every day.  Day by day, my life is becoming more rich and rewarding.  You can join me in this wonderful adventure of transformation, either in my therapy office or in one of my classrooms.  Do!

 Warm Regards, Connie

Connie shares this story of her personal discovery of the power of hypnosis during a presentation at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center on January, 16, 2010.  To date, Connie has lost approximately 80+ pounds with hypnosis.

What is NLP?

Hi! I'm Connie Brannan and I'm a hypnotherapist and a Licensed Trainer of NLP®. That's neuro linguistic programming. A lot of people are not sure what that means. I'm going to tell you what I believe it means and how I use it in my company, Mindworks Hypnosis. And in my vocational school in Washington State, Mindworks NLP, to help people make changes in their lives.

Now, NLP! Here's what it is.

It's all really about what is real. What is reality? How do you know what's real in your world?

Well, there's different senses that we have. We have eyes. We can see out into the world. I see a car. I see a face. I see a doorknob. I see things with my eyes. That's one sensory input. But then when I think about things and I remember things I have a visual memory. I can create a memory. My mother is no longer living but I can create a memory of her and see her in my mind's eye. I see her face, I see her eyes.

I can hear her voice. A memory can have sound.

We also have sound out in the world. I can hear a dog barking. I can hear a car backfiring. I can also recreate sound in my imagination. I talk to myself in my imagination, we all do! It's called self talk. That's sound, that's auditory.

We also have the ability of touch. Tactile sensation. Texture. What is this? This is smooth, this is a table. I am touching. That is an input of sensory information. Also, I can recreate in my mind memories of sensation. I can imagine the warmth of a summer day. Well, today's February! But I can imagine and remember warmth of the sun on a beach. And the smell of the air. All of that. We can create in our imagination memories of touch.

And in addition to that, we have feelings in our body: anger, joy, happy! Different feelings inside. These representations, including smell, including taste, our senses, this is how we create reality.

Well, the premise of NLP is that these representations can be altered. And when we alter our internal representations of reality, we can change reality.

I had a client in here talking about a spider phobia, and she said "I am so afraid of spiders!!" and she showed me that in her mind's eye there's a picture of a spider this close to her face and a spider body this big. Hey, I'd be screaming, too. So would anyone.

This is a picture in her mind that's creating a feeling called fear. We can alter the picture. We can push it away. Make that spider the size of a dot! Far, far, a football field away. From that distance, not so frightening.

We can adjust the pictures in our minds, the sound bites we play. Turn down that negative self talk and turn up something that sounds better!

I'm a fan of Smokey Robinson. He's a singer. And he gave a story about when he hears his own voice and his own music on the radio and they said "Smokey, what do you do?" He said "Turn it up!" When you like something in your mind turn it up. If it's not useful or doesn't make you feel good, turn it down. We control the volume.

Yes, we control the representations in our mind. People don't know this! We can change how we think, how we feel and what we do by manipulating the representations of our world. This is NLP. This is a way to take control of your experience of life. It's amazing. It's powerful. And when people have changes to make, this is the fastest thing on earth. And I love it.
