Step 1: Prepare Your Suggestions
Before you begin your mini self-hypnosis session, prepare your positive affirmations or suggestions. These should be stated in the present tense and positively for one particular goal at a time. For example, “I am calm and confident in work situations.” Or, “I have healthy eating habits.” Preparing your goal beforehand ensures you don’t have to think about it once you’re in a relaxed state.
Step 2: Visualize Your Success
You’ve already stated your goal to yourself, now visualize it was well. Step into the future living that success. What do you see, hear, feel? What’s going on around you? Firmly embed these scenes into your subconscious mind.
Step 3: Find a Comfortable Space
Find a quiet, comfortable place where you will not be disturbed. Somewhere safe and appropriate. Settle into a comfortable seated or lying position.
Step 4: Relaxation – Breathing
Start by taking slow, deep breaths. Inhale through your nose, hold for a moment, and then exhale through your mouth. Imagine you are breathing in deep relaxation and exhaling any tension or stress. With each comfortable breath, let your body relax more deeply.
Step 5: Hypnotic Induction
Now, close your eyes and visualize a peaceful place – this could be a forest, a beach, a meadow, or any place that makes you feel calm and relaxed. Imagine all the details – the colors, sounds, and smells of this peaceful place. Continue breathing deeply as you immerse yourself in this visualization.
Now, in this safe, comfortable place, imagine a warm, relaxing energy flowing from the top of your head and slowly moving down towards your toes. As you focus on each part of your body, visualize this energy as a warm, sunny light bringing an even deeper wave of relaxation.
Step 6: Deepening Technique – Relaxation Countdown
Imagine a countdown timer in your mind, starting from 10. With each count, you feel yourself becoming more and more relaxed. As you mentally count down, visualize each number becoming dimmer and farther away, taking you deeper into relaxation. If you lose track or forget the number you’re on, simply relax even deeper.
Step 7: Just Relax
Now, allow yourself to simply relax in this deeply peaceful state. There’s no need to think or say anything. Just enjoy this moment of profound tranquility.
Step 8: Awakening
When you’re ready to come out of the hypnotic state, visualize yourself at the bottom of a 10-step staircase, ready to ascend. With each step, you will feel more alert and energized. When you reach the top, open your eyes. You should feel relaxed and rejuvenated.
Remember to be patient with yourself while practicing self-hypnosis. Consistency is key. Please make sure you never practice self-hypnosis while driving or in any situation where losing conscious awareness could be problematic. It should always be performed in a safe and comfortable space.
Practice Daily.
Self-hypnosis is a skill that, like any other, improves with practice. It is important to familiarize yourself with each step of the process, to understand it fully and to rehearse it mentally or even verbally. Consider each stage — preparing your suggestions, finding a comfortable space, deepening your relaxation, repeating your suggestions, and awakening from the hypnotic state — and visualize how you will navigate through them. You might even write down the steps and your chosen suggestions, and review them regularly. The key is repetition. The more frequently you engage in this practice, the more automatic it will become. Eventually, the steps of self-hypnosis will become ingrained, allowing you to easily enter into a state of deep relaxation and make positive, lasting changes in your subconscious mind.
